Dye sublimation is how we print every mat. Your design is printed onto transfer paper with special inks, then pressed onto the mat with heat and pressure. The heat turns the ink into a gas that bonds into the polyester fibers of the surface. Nothing sits on top to peel, crack or rub off, so the colors stay bright through years of shuffling, sliding and play.

Excellent starter mat.
This is my first time ever making a custom playmat, and I'm glad I found Rubicon as my first try! I was able to customize my own playmat easily and cleanly with the online tool and order it shortly after. Shipping took 8 days total, which is pretty quick in my opinion.
Now the best parts of ordering from Rubicon: the playmat is gorgeously printed! The colors look exactly like the image I requested and the quality is still high-resolution. The physical quality of the mat is also very high, even better than some of the official merch from my TCGs! Arguably the MOST IMPORTANT part of this beautiful mat is the fact that it DOES NOT SMELL BAD!!! Fortunately, there is no weird, overwhelming "manufacturing" smell to it that needs to be aired out or cleansed (unlike some I've bought from other vendors). To be frank, it does still have a slight earthy smell that reminds me of Shiitake mushrooms for some reason, but it's not bad, and I feel totally comfortable playing on it with my beloved cards.
Overall, I highly recommend making your custom playmats with Rubicon! I am a first time customer, but I will definitely be a returning, long term supporter now :)
